Team Mossette Wins Shootout!

In all fourteen years of the Dick Nolan Classic, the final score had never come down to a shootout. That's because, quite frankly, no one had thought of using it before.

But when Anthony Villani notched the tying goal for Team Newhouse late in the third period, the crowd stood up at the final buzzer and demanded more. Newcomer Brian Mills (NC' 94) beat goaltender  Rob Thurman (NC'79) on essentially a splaying trick shot to earn the victory for Team Mossette. Russell DiFranco's pad save off a Dave San Lorenzo attempt in the shootout preserved the victory for the white squad.

"The shootout was not something we planned for," said white coach Brian Schiavi, " but it went off just like I drew it up in the huddle. I told our shooters: "Just get it on net and we can't lose. The only way Thurman can stop us is if we shoot wide."

Beside the shootout, the game featured all the hallmarks of a typical Dick Nolan Classic, ragged play, exhausted players, and a pool of younger talent set to make their mark with some exciting rushes. . Whitey Krolewski appeared to net the game winner with a solid redirect in front of Thurman, The normal "Hands of Stone" Krolewski  displayed remarkable dexterity in stuffing the puck between the confused goaltender/drummer's pads.

Three Stars: Dennis Gruarin, Bill Caso, Brian Mills
